DESCRIPTION
The hourglass in Freemasonry is a symbol encountered particularly in the third degree, representing the fleeting and transitory nature of human life. It signifies the continuous passage of time, reminding Masons that life is finite and that time is a precious resource that must be used wisely. The hourglass's two glass bulbs symbolise the cycle between life and death, or heaven and earth, with the turning of the hourglass representing renewal and the need to sometimes reverse our attitudes or actions to progress in life. It encourages Masons to live a full life of integrity, compassion, and honesty, making the most of the time they have to improve themselves and society. The hourglass also serves as a moral lesson to be mindful of how time is spent and to use it for meaningful and fulfilling purposes, underscoring the inevitability that "our time will run out".
Height 27cm x Width 19cm.
