DESCRIPTION
Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks No. 6
The "Rosarium Philosophorum," or "Rosary of the Philosophers," is recognised as one of the most significant texts in European alchemy. Originally written in the 16th century, it has been extensively quoted in later alchemical writings. It first appeared in print as the second volume of a larger work titled "De alchimia opuscula complura veterum philosophorum," published in Frankfurt in 1550. Like many alchemical texts, its authorship remains unknown.
The "Rosarium Philosophorum," or "Rosary of the Philosophers," is recognised as one of the most important texts in European alchemy. It first appeared in print as the second volume of a larger work titled "De alchimia opuscula complura veterum philosophorum," published in Frankfurt in 1550. Like many alchemical texts, its authorship remains unknown. Numerous manuscript copies circulated, with around thirty illustrated copies still in existence. Our collection includes six manuscript copies, featuring translations into French, German, and English. The English manuscript (Ms Ferguson 210) is particularly notable for its 20 vividly coloured miniatures, which are derived, with some alterations, from the original printed version.
